Conflict: In the Tell Tale Heart, Poe's protagonist, the narrator, has to deal with many conflicts throughout the story. The main conflict in the story is the narrator having to decide on killing the old man. Killing the old man is a conflict for the narrator because the narrator claims that he loves the old man, but the old man's eye was evil and needed to be destroyed.
Metaphor: Poe strongly uses metaphors to give the reader imagery of what he is describing and something to compare it to. In Poe's story, the narrator describes the old man eye with “He had the eye of a vulture– a pale blue eye, with a film over it.”
